The game of blackjack is popular worldwide in a variety of forms and varieties. There are countless variations of the game and each one is exciting and fun in its own way. Though most blackjack variations are played by similar rules, each game is unique in specific ways and different players prefer certain variations to others.

All blackjack games are played against a dealer with the goal of obtaining a hand that is worth a higher value than that of the dealer without "busting" by breaking 21. All variations begin with players placing bets and then cards are dealt.

The method in which cards are dealt varies from game to game. In most variations, the dealer takes two cards and places one face down, while the other players' cards are placed face up, but this is not always the case. In Double Exposure Blackjack both of the dealer's cards are exposed while in the British game of Pontoon both of the dealer's cards are face down. Players then have the option to hit, stand, split, double down, take insurance or surrender, depending on the rules of the variation they are playing. Then the dealer reveals his hand and winners are determined.

There are several rules, which differ frequently between blackjack variations. The first is the number of decks used and the type of decks. Most variations utilize 1, 2, 6 or 8 decks. Some variations, such as Spanish 21 and Double Attack blackjack, use Spanish decks, which are like ordinary decks with the 10s removed. Many variations differ in their rules pertaining to splitting, doubling down and payouts as well. It is always important to read the rules before you start playing any blackjack variation if you want to play at your best.

Some of the most popular blackjack variations include Single Deck Blackjack, Multi-Hand Blackjack, European Blackjack, Atlantic City Blackjack, Vegas Strip and Vegas Downtown Blackjack, Blackjack Switch and Super Fun 21.
